The first stage coach stop in Texas may be headed for a landfill. This according to Round Rock city officials who want to tear down a piece of Texas history in order to widen FM 620.

The Stagecoach Inn in Round Rock has been standing for 160 years; however if the Round Rock City Council gets its way, it won’t reach 161.

“We’ve looked at picking up and moving it, from the city’s perspective it’s just not feasible to do,” he said. “We’re not interested in just bringing a wrecking ball and smashing it and hauling it to the landfill, that’s not what we want to do.” claims Will Hampton, spokesperson for the city of Round Rock.

However, the city hasn’t volunteered to move the building, they are instead opting to sell the building to somebody who would be willing to move it at their own expense.

Most cities will donate historic buildings to historic societies and museums and then share the cost of moving them, however, in Round Rock, history has no place when it comes to progress.

“Too many Californians have moved here who don’t appreciate our heritage” claims one Round Rock resident. “They are ruining our beautiful city and turning it into Austin!”
