Abner Simon was just 18 years old when he was drafted into service during World War II.

He was halfway through his senior year of high school when the local draft board pulled his number. “They didn’t care that I was in school.”

But he cared.

Now he’s a Baptist Pastor who just wanted that piece of paper.

“I always missed graduating from high school. I don’t know why. I just did,” said Simon.

And on Saturday, he got it.

Orangefield High School in Orange, Texas made this hero’s dream a reality as he hobbled up to the podium using his cane.

He finally accepted his high school diploma.
