The soft-spoken Senator from South Carolina, Senator Lindsey Graham, is recommending that President Donald Trump immediately nominate Senator Ted Cruz for the US Supreme Court after he is sworn in to office.

Greenville News is reporting:

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham said in January that choosing between Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination was “like choosing between getting shot or poisoned.” On Friday morning, he recommended that President-elect Trump nominate Cruz to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“I would put Ted Cruz on that list. I would suggest that President Trump look within the Senate,” Graham said when asked who Trump should nominate for the court’s current vacancy. “There is some talent there. There is no stronger constitutional conservative than Ted Cruz.”

Graham, who ran against Trump and Cruz in the Republican presidential primary, had supportive words Friday for the president-elect that he had vocally criticized throughout the presidential campaign, and who he did not vote for. Graham voted for independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin over Trump on election day.

If nominated, it would be a fitting position for the junior senator from Texas. He clerked for former Chief Justice William Rehnquist before becoming the winning-est attorney to argue in front of the Supreme Court in history.

Trump and Cruz have had their differences, and Cruz wasn’t on the list of names released during the campaign by Trump’s press team. However, Senator Graham’s word carries a lot of weight in the Senate, and as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee he gets to be one of the first to scrutinize Supreme Court nominees.

Seeing that the first name on the ‘unoffical official’ list, Mike Lee, didn’t endear himself to the President-elect when he withdrew his endorsement only a few weeks before the election, and Senator Cruz did, the prospect of nominating a sitting Senator is alive and well.

Cruz is also relatively young, which makes him an attractive nominee for a President wishing to have a lasting legacy.

Time will tell, but Senator Cruz’s chances of being a Supreme Court Justice have just gone through the roof.
