It’s official.

Tony Romo is NOT going to be coming back as a starter this year unless something catastrophic happens to rookie Dak Prescott.

This means that Tony Romo has probably played his last game as a Cowboy after the Cowboys confirmed that Romo is a backup, not a starter.

What does this mean to Romo?

Vice reports:

This is now Dak’s team, which means—barring injury (please gosh no)—Tony Romo’s Cowboys career is over. He’ll have that plum warm spot on the bench all to himself as Dak leads them to the Super Bowl championship that would have beautifully capped Romo’s career…or not.

Some speculate that Tony Romo will retire at the end of the season, others that he will be traded to the Broncos, Jets, or 49ers.

Time will tell.

But for now, the era of big Tony is over.
