The interstate is expected to bring more travelers through the area which will help local economies grow.

I-14 also helps with national security as it will provide Fort Hood easier access to ports to ship soldiers and equipment out for deployments.

Some officials like State Representative and former Killeen Mayor Scott Cosper have been working on this project since 2000.

“We did it. We the region, all pulled together, we stayed the course, and we worked together with our state level and our federal level officials to be able to raise awareness of the opportunity and the need. And those officials were receptive, and this is a great day for Central Texas,” State Rep. Scott Cosper (R) of District 54 said.

Since 2005, TxDOT has invested more than $120 million into U.S. 190 to get it up to interstate standards.
