The vote wasn’t even close.

The Texas Senate has voted 27-4 to do away with those pesky annual safety inspections, which will save the average Texan $7 per year along with a dreaded wait for a mechanic to inspect the vehicle.

It should be noted that most states have already done away with annual safety inspections, after data shows that the inspections have little to no impact on actual accident rates.

If you do live in one of the 17 Texas counties which requires an emissions test in addition to the safety inspection, you’ll still have to get that done.

But for the rest of us… no more waiting in lines to show a mechanic our insurance cards.
